How-To Make Stealth Style Corners
Just because they don’t make stealth style corners for your car doesn’t mean you can’t have them. If you have a separate corner light then chance are it can be done. This may not work for everybody, but this is the best meathod I found of doing it.This write up may also be used to make blacked out headlights as well
supplies and tools
Black paint
Oven or heat gun
painters tape
tools for prying
silicone
The first step is removing the corner light from the car. Personally I don’t like to work on my one and only part so I got an extra set of lights from a junkyard. If your like me and you want an extra set, the best place to find them cheap is at www.car-parts.com
Once you have your lights in hand you will need to preheat you oven to 200*. Take a cookie sheet and line it with tinfoil so you won’t be eating plastic chip cookies. After the oven is hot put the lenses on the cookie sheet in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Make sure you keep a close eye on them so they don’t melt or burn
After the lights are hot you need to slowly pry the lenses off with a flat screw driver. I did this one at a time so the other stayed hot while I worked, and as the one I worked on cooled I switched. It may take a few times heating before you get the lenses off, but don’t try to force it or it WILL break. Some light (like mine) have the lense clipped into the backing and you will need to release it some how, that will be determined by how it is secured.
After the lenses are removed this is a good time to take out the yellow reflector if you have one. Now you have to make the area ready for paint. The best thing to do is tape a small part of the reflector, so you will leave a little chrome to intensify the light. After you are taped lightly sand the chrome so the paint can adhere.
Now your ready to paint. I taped the out side of the light so the glue and the trim didn’t get covered with paint. For my lights I chose black to match my 2002 black sport headlights, but you can also paint these to match your car if you desire, I recommend a High temp paint so it will survive the oven. Paint the inside of the light with a few light coats and your pretty much done. Leave the lights a few hours or over night to dry.
To reassemble the lights I put the 2 pieces together the best I could then put them back in the oven for a little while. Once they are hot again keep squeezing them until they are back to there original spot. You may need to let them get good and hot before they will get there.
